Terms of Service

The short version: screensnap is free, open-source software that runs on your own computer. Your recordings are yours and we never see them. Use it lawfully, expect no warranty, and be excellent to the people you record.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
screensnap is a free browser extension for screen recording, screenshots, and video editing, published by DM Solutions (help@dmsolutions.io). These terms apply to your use of the screensnap extension, this website, and the optional Google Drive backup feature. By installing or using screensnap you agree to these terms.
2. The service
screensnap records a browser tab, an app window, or your whole screen (with optional webcam and microphone), captures screenshots, and edits the result in a built-in editor, exporting MP4 or GIF. All capture, editing, and encoding run locally on your device. screensnap is provided free of charge, with no account, no time limits, and no watermarks. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what data is and is not handled.
3. Open-source license
The screensnap software is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0), with the source code available on GitHub. Nothing in these terms limits or replaces the rights the GPL grants you. If these terms and the GPL ever conflict regarding the software itself, the GPL wins.
4. Your content
Everything you capture with screensnap is yours. We claim no ownership of and no license to your recordings or screenshots, and because processing happens on your device, we never receive them. If you connect the optional Google Drive backup, uploads go to your own Drive under your own Google account.
You are responsible for what you record and share. That includes:
- obtaining any consent required to record other people (calls, meetings, voices, likenesses) under the laws that apply to you;
- respecting copyright and other rights in content you capture; and
- complying with the rules of any platform or workplace you record.
5. Acceptable use
Do not use screensnap to break the law or harm others, including recording people without required consent, harassment, stalking, infringing intellectual property, or capturing content in ways a service's terms lawfully prohibit. We do not monitor your use (we technically cannot), so this responsibility sits with you.
6. Optional Google Drive backup
- The Drive backup is off by default and only runs after you connect your own Google account.
- Your use of Google Drive is governed by Google's own terms and privacy policy; Google's services are not ours and we are not responsible for them.
- screensnap's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
- You can disconnect at any time in the extension, or revoke access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
7. No warranty
screensnap is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law (and as also stated in the GPL-3.0). We do not promise the extension will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that recordings can never be lost. Keep copies of anything important.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, DM Solutions and its contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or lost recordings, arising from or related to your use of screensnap. screensnap is free; where a cap on liability is required, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for it, which is zero. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
9. Changes and discontinuation
We may update, change, or discontinue screensnap or any feature at any time. We may also update these terms; material changes will be published at this URL with a new "Last updated" date, and continuing to use screensnap after that means you accept the updated terms. The source remains available under the GPL regardless.
10. Termination
You can stop using screensnap at any time by uninstalling the extension. Uninstalling removes the extension and its local data from your browser; files you saved or uploaded to your own Drive remain yours.
11. General
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These terms plus the GPL-3.0 (for the software) and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about screensnap.
